2006 Toyota 4runner: EVO-ONE No yellow LED when ignition switch is on

0 votes
Hello.  I am in the process of installing an EVO-ONE on a 2006 Toyota 4runner, with a t-harness.  I was able to successfully program the vehicle's key to the bypass module (red LED flashes 10x upon insertion of the key, then goes out).  The remote start module does nothing when I push Lock 3x on the OEM remote, nor can I get it to remote start with the Crimestopper REVO 1-button RF kit.

In my own troubleshooting, I found that I have a solid ground to the EVO-ONE, and that the ignition wires at the 6-pin plug are all doing what they should (IGN1, IGN2, start 1, start 2).  The module has mode 2.4 programmed, as well as 20.2 as instructed in guide #19291.  I am also getting a good IGN+ signal to the yellow wire in the 20-pin plug.

I do know in my previous EVO-ONE installs on other vehicles, the module should respond with a yellow LED whenever the ignition switch is in the ON position.  And that the blue LED should flash when lock/unlock button is pushed on the OEM remote.  None of these are happening in this case.

Is there something I overlooked, or do I potentially have a bad unit?

Yellow led will not turn on when canbus is not used.

Your vehicle is also NOT compatible with 3x lock remote starting, you will need a seperate RFKIT to start the vehicle.

Good to know that the LEDs only work when CANBUS is used.  Thank you for that bit of info.

I have an RFKIT (Crimestopper Revo 1).  In the Crimestopper instructions, it says I need to have the ignition on, then hold down the EVO's programming button until the red LED for the remote start comes on (LED behind the yellow transmission loop wire).

I am not able to get the LED to come on when doing this, so I can't complete the programming procedure for the remotes.

Can you give me any advice/guidance for this?

Thank you for your quick response!

Here are some suggestions (in no particular order):

  • It's the VALET button and not the PROGRAMMING button that should be held down for remote programming.
  • If the unit is in an armed state, the module will prevent you from entering programming until it is disarmed. To disarm the system, since no remotes are currently programmed, simply go into valet mode (ignition ON + 3 presses on the valet button)
  • connect the evo to the flash-link while in Connection Mode: Remote Starter and change the firmware to version 1.16
  • If the EVO-ONE ever had any other types of remotes programmed, a reset of programmed functions and remotes is needed.  You can find this procedure in the Quick Install guide (page2), just add one extra step, disconnect and reconnect power at the end.
  • See if there's anything you may have missed in this guide: https://fortin.ca/download/29221/revo11-install-guide-29221.pdf
I had a chance again last night to work on the vehicle.  Thank you for the clarification regarding the Valet vs. Programming button.

Doing a master reset of the EVO-ONE, flashing the firmware to 1.16, and doing all the steps over again resulted in successful remote programming and a working remote start.

I have another question regarding the Auto Headlights, but I'll post that seperately.

Thank you very much!!
