I'm installing a GMT4 into a 2013 express in standalone mode for the lock3 mode.  Is a hood pin or valet switch required for the unit to to work?

The hood pin and/or valet switch are to disable remote starting. Highly recommended. If your vehicle has a factory hood pin, the EVO-ALL should be detecting it through Can-Bus. Meaning, you actaully need to do that connection unless you can remote start the vehicle while the hood is opened.

Help me understand why I wouldn't want the car to start with the hood open using the remote?
If someone is working on your vehicle and somebody accidentally remote starts the vehicle, someone will get hurt. It's a security that prevents injuries.

It is a matter of  commun sense wink

Good stuff!  I hadn't thought of that!

Thanks
