Flash Limit Reached

0 votes
I was trying to update the firmware on my EVO-ALL while troubleshooting an issue where a 2016 Toyota Tacoma (Push-to-Start) wouldn't start in colder weather and received a message saying the flash limit has been reached.  The serial number is 001A06458360.

This module cannot be updated. No start in cold weather would not require an update though.

No start in cold weather is normally related to a loose connection. If using a t-harness, make sure everything is fully seated and fully clipped in. On the opposite end, it could also be related to a low battery.

Yeah, further reading I saw that Fortin isn't allowing modules older than 2015 to be flashed.  Emphasis on the "isn't allowing" part as the software is clearly capable of flashing the firmware. The module was actually purchased in Nov. 2016 funny enough. I get it though, they want people to buy new units to support software development.  That doesn't change the fact its a trash business practice however.

I was going to disable a few options such as the Hood Latch input and Auto Heated Seats as this truck doesn't even support those, but I can't now.

I know you're just trying to help and its not your decision so sorry you have to read my complaining.  I appreciate your time, but I hope this may serve as a warning to future customers NOT to spend money on a product with forced obsolescence.
