2008 Altima Issue

When using an EVO-ALL on a 2008 Altima (push to start) with firmware 76.16, the car starts by only pushing lock once (so you can't lock the car without it starting). I can't get any other firmwares to start the car at all (not even light up when the car is locked). I tried the recommended 76.14, 76.09, 4.18, and 4.08 and nothing works. Is there a firmware that will start a 2008 Altima by pushing lock 3 times instead of once?

Hi Jacob,

 

The 2007-08 Nissan Altima is not listed as 3x Lock Start compatible for the sole reason that we cannot detect the actual Lock commands through the vehicles Can network since the Lock command we need is non-existent.

 

3x Lock Start requires 2 major features in order for it to work.

  1. OEM Monitoring
  2. Stand Alone Remote Starter

The EVO can work as a stand alone unit in the 2008 Altima but we cannot detect the lock command. therefore, 3xlock start is not availalbe.

 

There are 2 solutions for you now,

  • Use an Rf-KIt such as the REVO from crimestopper.
  • Metra has a nice little tool for times like these that would convert an X amount of pulse to a Y amount of pulses.
    • Piece is called an Axxess CustomTrigger
    • You could use it to trigger the External Input of the EVO-ALL when the EVO stand alone option is enable (D1 - ON, C1 - OFF)

In addition to my previous message... I have what may be good or bad news.

 

There's a correction that was done for newer Nissan vehicles with 72.16 that made them start with 1x Lock press. You can always try this firmware to see if it would work on your vehicle. Do not get your hopes up though as 2007-2008 was really never supported. The firmware fix if firmware 0.28 if you would like to try.

Thanks for the help! I just tried 0.28. At first it was promising because it was the first firmware other than 72.16 that actually flashed the blue light when the car locked. But same thing, it started the car just pushing lock 1x.

So is this guide saying that the EVO-ONE supports the remote start then?

i appreciate the feed back for the 0.28 firmware. I would personally just grab a the Trigger piece from Metra if having to use the oem remote to start the vehicle is non-negociable.

No support for the 2007-08 altima at all for 3x lock. It says 2007-08 in the guide for the EVO-ONE only because 2007-2008 has the same connections as 2009-2012. I'll send a request in tomorrow to have the Altima split into 2 rows for 2007-2008 and 2009-2012.

And finally got this to work. Robert is dead on the money. For anyone else playing along, here is the exact to get it to work:

You have to flash with 72.16 or 0.28, no other firmware would work. I got the REVO-1 one button RF remote, contrary to what the installtion paper says, you still need to program the remote (the paper says something like just need to hold the button for 1 to 2 seconds and that's it because it is preprogrammed. That is incorrect, you must go through the whole process to program the remote, after that, worked like a champ!

As for the REVO system. The REVO remotes are preprogrammed to the antenna in the Crimestopper. That programming procedure you had to follow was to pair the REVO kit with the EVO. It basically marries them together so they can talk and communicate to each other.

I did find one last issue related to this if you can answer (and hopefully be helpful to anyone else with a 2008 Altima). Because it is a push-to-start key fob system, there is no key to insert when you get in the car. So when I remote start and get in, 3 seconds later the car shuts off. Is there an option that makes the REVO act similar to the car where the ignition is active if the fob is with in the car? I definitely don't want someone to get in the car and take off with now, but I also am not a fan of remote starting and then having to start again once I get in the car.

You vehicle is shutting down because of the security feature required when remote starting.

 

There's a procedure at the end of the installation guide that says what you need to do / press in order to not have vehicle shut down when you open a door.

In general, the EVO will not allow key-take-over if it does not detect the unlock signal from the OEM remote or the aftermarket remote. Meaning, the car will shut down when opening a door if it was not properly unlocked via the OEM remote (or the aftermarket remote). This is so that someone doesn't just break a window to get in and drive away.

 

That said, in order for the EVO to detect unlock from the OEM remote, it needs to see it through the vehicles Can-Bus, which for the 2007-2008 Altima is non-existent.

 

Here's some solutions, this may get a little confusing and may be better explained over the phone:

  1. Aside from detecting unlock through Can, if the unlock input of the EVO-ALL see's an (-)unlock pulse (negative trigger), the EVO will allow key take-over. This is the purple/white wire on the EVO 20-pin connector.
  • At the BCM, you can find an unlock wire (may be an empty pin) refer to install guide. If this pin location tests (-) when pressing unlock on the factory remote, you can just connect the purple/white wire of the EVO there and problem solved.
    • Pin 15 at BCM green 40 pin connector is an unlock signal. Question is, does it test with the OEM unlock button press, the door handle detection, or the inside unlock switch ?

2. Last resort would be a 4 button remote. You would have to do unlock on the aftermarket remote in order to enable take-over. Also, instead of connecting the purple/white wire of the EVO to the unlock wire, you would need to connect the Green wire since we would then want to actually unlock the doors.

 

What we're in the end looking for, is the EVO needs to see unlock. The blue LED will flash when you do unlock. If you want to test the above solution using the purple/white unlock input wire of the EVO and also it would give you a much better idea of what is going on, do this.

  1. Close the doors while sitting in the car
  2. Remote start the car
  3. take the purple/white wire on the EVO and ground it for 1 sec (blue led will flash on EVO)
  4. open door. The car should now stay running since you simulated an unlock signal by grounding the purple/white.

 

 

This has been very informative. A couple of questions for clarification.

In guide #12661 (THAR-NIS1 Standalone) there is an option for the EVO Unlock out to be connected to BCM pin 15 and the EVO Lock out connected to BCM pin 37.  For the Evo to see the unlock you stated to connect the EVO Unlock in to BCM pin 15.  Is it okay to have both the EVO Unlock out and EVO Unlock in connected to the same wire?

To start the car with a 3x Lock command you suggested using an Axxess Custom Trigger.  I assume the custom trigger would be used where it senses 3 pulses in 5 seconds it sends out one pulse.  The input would be connected to BCM pin 37 and the output to Evo external trigger.  Instead of using the Axxess Custom Trigger, could you connect the Evo Lock in to BCM pin 37 to accomplich the same thing?
I can confirm that pin 15 on the green BCM connector on a 2008 Altima does not test (-) with key fob or door detection.  Looks like the only way to accomplish key take over with key fob and door detection would be through a relay setup.
